Somebody is walking towards you on your side of the path.
Yes. Being right about the rule and being safe are different jobs. You hold your own side, you take the speed off, and you give them the room and the time to notice and move. If they never do, you are slow enough that it costs you nothing.
Look at where each of those puts you. Holding your speed at somebody who is not looking is betting your stopping distance on a stranger. Swinging into the oncoming side puts you in the one place a rider coming the other way has every reason to expect to be empty. Slow down and stay right.

You are behind a slower rider, the path bends left behind trees, and there is room to go now.
Yes, and the wait is short. The straight past the bend is where the pass has a visible end, which is the only place the rule lets you take it. Sitting in behind at their speed for a few seconds is also the quietest way to arrive at that straight already lined up.
Two of those start a pass with no view of the finish. Whatever is coming the other way is holding its own right side, which is the space you would be occupying. And passing on the right sends you into the side the rider ahead will drift towards the moment anything surprises them. Wait for the straight.

Your local path has no speed limit posted anywhere on it.
Yes. The conditions rule is the one that works with a sign, without a sign, and on the day the path is unrecognisable from yesterday. Fifteen is a useful starting figure for a busy path and about twenty for a quiet one, but they are the outside of the range, not the answer.
Two of those hand the decision to something that cannot see the path. The machine’s assisted limit was set by its class, and a number you remembered from a different path was set for different conditions. Neither of them knows how many people are in front of you this afternoon. That is your job, continuously.

7Decide
Three of you are riding the path together and a runner appears ahead coming your way.
Yes. Side by side is allowed on the right half, and single file is what that becomes the moment the path narrows or somebody needs the other half. Getting into line early also means the runner never has to work out what your group is going to do.
Check who is left with a decision. A group across the full width means the person coming the other way has to pick a side and hope. Slowing down while still spread out is better than not slowing, but it does not give them back the half of the path that is theirs. Single file, on your own side, early.

A rider and somebody walking collide on a path. Who is more likely to end up with a brain injury?
Right, and by a distance. In that hospital series the struck pedestrians had brain injuries at nearly double the rate of the riders. It is the least intuitive fact in this course, because the rider is the one on the machine and the one who feels exposed.
It is the other way round, and that is the point of the lesson. The 69 pedestrians in that series suffered brain injuries at nearly double the rate of the riders. You have a helmet, a machine and a moment of warning. They have none of the three, which is why the room has to come out of your ride.
