8 questions from the 4 lessons in this badge. You need every one right, and you can try as many times as you like.
Step 1 of 8
1Decide
If you are not home on time, what is the first question anybody asks?
Yes. And if the answer is “it depends”, that is a bad afternoon for everybody. If the answer is one route, somebody can be standing on it in four minutes. The phone question comes second, and only helps if the first one is answered.
Not first. Before anything else, somebody needs to know where to look. That is the entire job your route does. How late and whether you have a phone both matter, but neither tells anybody which street to walk down.
Pick the right one to carry on.
2Find them
Which of these count as a safe place to go into?
Tap the ones that count.
Find all 4.
3Decide
It is 4pm, dry, and you are on time.
Right. Seeing the far end is not the same as somebody being able to see you. Nothing overlooks that alley. Being on time and in daylight does not change that.
Have another think. The alley is quicker for exactly one reason: nobody is on it. That is the same reason it is a no. Daylight does not put people in it.
Pick the right one to carry on.
4Find them
Which of these are shortcuts you would walk past?
Tap the ones that count.
Find all 3.
5Decide
What is the actual reason to keep it in your pocket?
Right. A phone in your hand takes your eyes, your ears and your attention at once, and everybody around you can see that it has. The stolen-phone thing is real, and it is also solved by the same pocket.
Not the main one. That is real, but it is small. The reason is your eyes and ears, not the phone. A kid with their head down would not notice the reversing car, and would not notice being noticed either.
Pick the right one to carry on.
6Find them
On the walk home, which of these would you actually miss with your head down?
Tap the ones that count.
Find all 4.
7Decide
Three arrivals. Which one gives nothing away?
That one. Nobody on the street learned anything. Notice that it is also the fastest of the three, which is not an accident. The quiet arrival and the quick arrival are the same arrival.
Look at what each one shows the street. The lanyard says you let yourself in. The open bag on the step says you cannot get in and nobody is coming. The pocket says nothing at all, and nothing is what you want to say.
Pick the right one to carry on.
8Decide
You get to the door and the key is not in your pocket.
Right. The key might well be in your bag. You look for it somewhere that is not your own locked front door. Every family needs one backup, agreed in advance, and it needs to be somewhere with an adult in it.
Think about who is watching. Both of those leave you outside a locked house, visibly unable to get in, for a long time. Move first, solve it second. The bag can be searched at a kitchen table two doors down.
Pick the right one to carry on.
