The parents are half out of the door. Which do you make sure of before it shuts?
Yes. The film question matters and it is in the list. But if you only get one thing before the door shuts, it is the thing you would need to read out to an ambulance. Everything else can be a phone call later. That cannot.
Not that one. Films and snacks are real questions and they are on the list, but they are the kind of thing you can text about at eight o’clock. The address is the one thing that has to be on paper before the door closes, because the night it matters, there is no time to ask.

Your best friend is outside. Ten minutes. The handover said nothing about visitors. What do you say?
Right. Nothing about visitors was agreed, so the answer is no, and the reason is one honest sentence. Next handover you ask, and if the answer is yes, your friend comes in with everybody’s knowledge. That is the difference.
No. Letting someone in and telling the parents afterwards is asking permission after the thing has happened, which is not permission. The Two Questions: do I have it? Not tonight. Would I be happy telling the mum after? Only if you had asked first.

5Decide
You are at the gate with both kids. Max says the dog is still inside. What do you do?
Right. Both children, one place, one phone call. You tell 911 about the dog and they tell the crew. Nobody has ever been asked why they did not go back in for a dog. People have been asked why they did.
No. Going back in is the thing that turns a fire with nobody hurt into a fire with somebody hurt, and that somebody is you, which leaves two children alone at a gate. The dog is the fire crew’s job. Yours is standing at that gate with two.
