The The Job Badge Challenge

6 questions from the 3 lessons in this badge. You need every one right, and you can try as many times as you like.

Step 1 of 6

1Decide

The parents are back in an hour. Which of these is actually the job?

That one. The other two might both be true and the parent still would not know if Ivy was safe. Knowing where she is, right now, is the thing that never gets delegated to a tidy kitchen or a shut door.
Look again. A tidy kitchen and a child in bed are both good, but neither tells you the child is safe. A child can be behind a closed door and out of the window. The job is knowing where she is and what she is doing, and everything else comes after that.

Pick the right one to carry on.

2Find them

Which of these are part of the job?

Tap the ones that count.

Find all 4.

3Decide

Leo says: Mum lets me stay up on Fridays. What do you say?

Right. Notice you did not have to decide whether he was telling the truth. The note decided it. That is what the note is for, and it is why you read it before the parents leave rather than at half past seven.
Have another think. Half an hour is a deal, and a deal tells Leo the rule moves. The threat is a fight, and a fight is something an eight-year-old can keep going for an hour. The instruction, repeated flat, gives him nothing to hold on to.

Pick the right one to carry on.

4Find them

Which of these are tests, and completely normal?

Tap the ones that count.

Find all 4.

5Decide

A parent asks what you are good at. Which answer actually tells them something?

That one. It has a person in it, an age, a day and a job. A parent can picture it and, if they wanted to, check it. The other two are things anyone could say without ever having held a child.
Not that one. It might be true, and it still tells the parent nothing they can picture or check. A strength is something you have done, with a who and a when in it. Say the thing you actually did.

Pick the right one to carry on.

6Find them

Which of these count as a strength you can offer a parent?

Tap the ones that count.

Find all 4.
