The Fire, Water and Getting Help Badge Challenge

6 questions from the 3 lessons in this badge. You need every one right, and you can try as many times as you like.

Step 1 of 6

1Decide

The lighter is in your hand.

Right. Not yours, even to move. You tell a grown-up where it is. They do the moving.
Moving it feels helpful. But it is still in your hand. Matches, lighters and candles are never yours, even to carry. Put it down. Tell a grown-up where it is.

Pick the right one to carry on.

2Decide

You see fire. Which one?

Right. Out, then tell. Putting it out is a grown-up job. Water on a cooking fire makes it bigger.
Water feels right. On a cooking fire it makes it worse. Watching wastes the seconds. Leave and tell. That is your whole job.

Pick the right one to carry on.

3Decide

The alarm goes. Teddy is on the bed. Grab it?

Right. You go, and only you. Teddy is not the job. Out is the job.
Quick is how people get stuck. Nothing goes with you. Not a toy, not a pet. Out.

Pick the right one to carry on.

4Decide

You are outside. The cat is still in. Which one?

Right. You tell. The firefighters go in. That is what they are for.
You do not go back in for anything. Not a toy, not a pet. You tell a grown-up. They are the ones who go in.

Pick the right one to carry on.

5Decide

They say: stay on the phone. Grandad still is not moving. What now?

Right. They tell you what to do for Grandad, one step at a time. They stay with you until help comes.
Ringing Mum feels right. But the person on the phone is already sending help. Hanging up stops that. Stay on. They tell you what to do next.

Pick the right one to carry on.

6Decide

You called 911. Grandad was only asleep. Are you in trouble?

Right. Never. Not once. Calling when you were not sure is exactly what they want you to do.
You are never in trouble for calling. Not once. A call that turns out fine is still a good call.

Pick the right one to carry on.
