- Sharp things where a small person can reach.

- Overloaded outlets and daisy-chained extension cords.
- Medicines left out, especially somebody else’s.
- Heavy things on high shelves, and furniture a small child could climb and pull over.

Step 1 — Pan handles and dish towels. A slow look around a kitchen finding four things in turn: a pan handle sticking out over the edge of the stove and being turned inward; a dish towel next to a burner and being moved; a knife within easy reach being pushed back; a cleaning bottle on a low shelf. Each one found, then fixed.
Step 2 — The way out. Shoes and a bag lifted off a staircase. A rug that slides, pressed flat and its corner noticed. A hallway with a box in it, moved clear. Ends on an unobstructed path to the front door.
