Popup 1 – follow the rules of the road
Production notes
What Josh says
8.54sFollow the rules of the road! Cross the street at intersections, traffic lights or with a crossing guard whenever possible.
3.08sLook for moving cars at driveways
3.74sand make eye contact with drivers to make sure they see you.

Popup 2 – do not take shortcuts
Production notes
What Josh says
4.13sDon't take shortcuts! Stay on open, well-travelled routes.
4.44sDecide on the best route for you with your family, and stick to it.
10.95sAsk permission first if you need to change your route home for any reason. And talk to your parents about a back-up route, so you know a different way home if you ever need one.
10.45sThat way, if something is closed or blocked, you already know the other way home and you are not deciding it on your own in the moment.

Popup 3 – be aware of distracted drivers
Production notes
What Josh says
4.10sBe aware! Stay alert! Know what is around you.
2.40sLook out for distracted drivers
2.43sand other dangers along your route.

Popup 4 – avoid strangers, five steps back
Production notes
What Josh says
5.36sAvoid strangers! Stay five steps away from strangers who approach you.
8.05sIgnore any strangers who ask for help or information. It's not rude to ignore or say 'No' to strangers.
4.05sStrangers should ask adults for help, not kids.
5.62sNever go anywhere with anyone without getting permission first from your parent or guardian.

Popup 5 – go straight home, walk with a group
Production notes
What Josh says
5.15sWalk with a group. Don't delay! Go straight home after school.
5.09sYour family will worry if you're not home when expected and they don't know where you are.
7.24sAlways walk with another person. If you get hurt or a stranger approaches, you can help each other.

Popup 6 – school bus safety, six beats
Production notes
What Josh says
9.09sAlways wait for a bus on the sidewalk. Only walk to the door once the bus has completely stopped, and get on in a line, one at a time.
7.81sThere are places around a bus where the driver cannot see you at all. The worst one is right behind it.
11.18sIf you miss the bus, never chase it. Use your back-up plan and call your parent or guardian. You will learn more about back-up plans in the At Home Safety badge.
18.42sWait for the driver to signal you before you cross in front of a bus. Then walk until you have passed the bus and can see the road. Stop there, look left, right and left again, and check that the cars really have stopped. Never assume they have.
2.17sNever walk or play behind a bus.
2.69sStay seated with your head and arms inside.

Popup 7 – in the city
Production notes
What Josh says
3.68sIf you live in a city, getting around might look like this.
4.75sIt is your job to talk to your parents about how to travel safely.
15.78sTrain tracks are a dangerous place to play. In fact, it is against the law to play on or near a train track. The size and speed of a train make it very difficult to make sudden emergency stops.

Popup 8 – the phone under the bus
Production notes
What Josh says
1.80sWould you immediately go get it?

Popup 9 – e-scooters and e-bikes
Production notes
What Josh says
18.23sSome things are exciting and risky at the same time, and an e-scooter or an e-bike is one of them. Whether you are ready for one is a big call, and it is not a call to make on your own – work it out with your parent or guardian, and be honest with them about it.
11.47sThey can move very quickly, so it can be hard to stop or stay in control. Riding too fast can cause crashes, especially around cars, bikes, and people walking.
8.12sCrashes can happen between e-bikes, e-scooters, cars and people walking. Serious crashes can badly hurt someone.
18.10sSo find out together what your community allows, be honest about how much practice you have really had, and agree the rules you will ride by. Thinking a risk through with someone who knows you, instead of guessing on your own, is what growing up actually looks like.
27.40sGenerally, riders need to follow the same rules of the road as cyclists. There may be restrictions in your community on where e-bikes and e-scooters may be ridden – for example on sidewalks, trails or in parks. Many communities also have a minimum age. Often that age is sixteen, so you may be too young to use one. Be sure to check with your parents or guardians about the restrictions where you live.
11.39sOnly one rider at a time – no passengers. Be visible: use lights and reflective clothing. And never use a phone or headphones while you are riding.
3.32sGo slow, stay alert, and make sure others see you.

Popup 10 – the helmet
Production notes
What Josh says
8.78sAlways wear a properly fitted helmet. And check your bike before you ride – your brakes, your tires and your chain should all be in good working order.
11.65sFollow the rules of the road – obey traffic lights, stop signs and road signs. Ride on the correct side of the road. And use hand signals before you turn or stop.
15.88sLook left, right, and left again before crossing a street or a driveway. Stay alert – don't use headphones or your phone while riding. Be visible and easy to see. And slow down and be extra careful at intersections and driveways.
4.39sIs this child being safe? What is the child missing?

Questions still waiting on you
Is 'Be Aware' popup 3 or popup 4?
SHIPPED AS POPUP 3. The board and every asset call it popup 3 and the map icon points there. Confirm or tell me to renumber – a renumber touches the map hit-boxes, the register and ten filenames, so it is cheap now and dear later.
What we recommend
Is the e-scooter rider 12 or 10?
SHIPPED AS TWELVE. The cast row says a twelve-year-old and the films show a child of about that age. If she should be ten, that is a recast of four shots.
What we recommend
Popups 6, 7 and 9 are written as instructions to the producer, not as narration. Who writes the spoken words?
ANSWERED BY DOING. Popups 6, 7 and 9 were written out as real narration and recorded on Josh – the exact words are on the storyboard and in the films. What is open is no longer 'who writes it' but 'do you accept these words'.
What we recommend
THE WALK HOME video – FOUND. Do we cut it in, or generate a new one?
ANSWERED. Her 2017 film is cut in as 1.3a and is the only block marked APPROVED. Nothing was generated to replace it.
What we recommend
A take exists for the last two beats. Approve it, or tell me to do it another way?
What we recommend
What does the child hear when they answer YES to 'would you immediately go get it?'
ANSWERED BY DOING. Rachel wrote feedback for the NO branch only, so the YES branch was written and recorded too – it is the 'This is the worst plan!' read on the console under popup 8. Her words for NO are untouched; the YES words are mine and need her eye.
What we recommend
Does a 10-year-old hear 'serious crashes can cause major injuries or, in some cases, even death'?
What we recommend
Does the e-scooter popup teach 'ride it safely' or 'this is not for children'?
SETTLED 27 Aug. Rachel agreed with Spencer that abstinence is not the answer, and the popup has been REWRITTEN around judgement rather than permission: it now opens 'Some things are exciting and risky at the same time… whether you are ready for one is a big call, and it is not a call to make on your own' and closes on working the decision out together and agreeing the rules you will ride by. The safety rules themselves are untouched. Left here for Velma to see the change and object if she still wants abstinence.
What we recommend
Do the alternate 'YOU' takes and the Q6 clip exist as recordings?
ANSWERED BY DOING, as recommended. All seven challenge questions are generated in one voice rather than mixing sources. If the original alternate takes turn up they can be swapped in, but nothing waits on them.
