Somebody offers you a ride

  • Even somebody you know. Even in the rain. Even a neighbor you have known for years.
  • The answer is not automatically no — it is check first.
  • Message the adult in charge and wait for a reply. If they say yes, it is fine to go.
  • If you cannot reach them, the answer is no, and you keep walking.

Somebody is walking behind you

  • Cross the road. If they cross too, go into the nearest open store, or knock on the nearest door.
  • Say you think somebody is following you.
  • You will never be in trouble for being wrong about this.
  • Grown-ups would far rather you interrupted them.

An adult asks you for help

You have seen this one before, in another badge. Same moment, same rule.

  • Directions, a lost dog, a heavy bag, a phone to borrow.
  • Adults ask other adults for help.
  • An adult asking a child for help is the single clearest warning sign in this whole course.
  • Step back, do not go closer to a car, and walk to where there are other people.

  • Call. Every time.
  • There is no version of this where calling makes it worse.
  • Not when you get home. Now, from where you are.

Step 1 — The day that is not ordinary. The walk home, on the day something is different about it.

Step 2 — Cross the road. A child walking a suburban sidewalk becomes aware of somebody behind them — never shown clearly, never menacing. The child crosses the road. Ends with them stepping into a lit store and speaking to the person behind the counter.

Step 3. The same clip you saw earlier in the course, shown again because the rule is the same one.

Step 4 — Call. Every time.. Three quick beats on the same sidewalk: a child checking the time and wincing, a child looking around not recognising the street, a child who has clearly just had something go wrong. Each one ends the same way — phone out, call made. Same action, three situations.
