Your phone, music and ears
Your phone buzzes. Reaching into a pocket and looking at the screen takes about two seconds — one to find it, one to read it. Two seconds does not sound like anything. At 12 miles an hour, which is an easy pace on a flat road, two seconds is about 35 feet. That is the whole width of a driveway and the car sitting in it. You ride past all of it without seeing any of it.
