Clip 1 — the walk home. Brandon walks along the pavement toward the corner. His headphones are over his ears and he is looking down at his phone. He reaches the curb and keeps walking without lifting his head.
Clip 2 — if you answered yes. Brandon steps into the road without looking. A car passes fast in front of him and the tires screech. The screen goes black. Brandon is not hurt.
Clip 3 — the right way. Seen from behind Brandon, so you are looking where he looks. He stops at the curb, puts his phone in his pocket and rests his headphones around his neck. He looks left, up the near lane — and a car is coming, so he waits for it to pass. He looks right, then left again, then crosses. A voice says: “Phone away, in your pocket. Headphones down around your neck, so you can hear. Now look left. That is the lane closest to you, so that is where the danger comes from first, and someone is coming. So you wait. Now look right. Then left again. Clear. Catch the driver’s eye, and go.”
