1Decide
Quiet road, no bike lane. Which side?
Right side, with the traffic. A driver pulling out of a side road looks towards the traffic they expect. A bike coming the wrong way is in the place they never look. And the road rules are on your side if something goes wrong.
Facing the cars feels safer. It is not. Every driver at every junction is looking for traffic coming the normal way. Against traffic, you arrive from the side nobody checks, at closing speed. The middle is for taking the lane before a turn, which is next lesson. Right side, same direction.

3Decide
You need to turn right at the next side road. When do you signal?
Right. Early enough that the car behind can slow before you do. Then both hands back on the bars, because you brake and steer better with two, and the signal has done its work.
Too late, or not at all. A signal is information for the driver behind you, and they need it before you slow down, not as you turn. Even on a right turn, the car behind is about to see you brake. Tell them why first.

5Decide
Bell or voice?
Right. A bell carries further; a voice tells them where you are. Some people jump at a bell, some do not hear a voice. The warning is a courtesy. The slowing down is the safety.
Nearly, or not at all. The warning is only there to stop them being surprised. It does not buy you your speed back. If they step sideways at the wrong moment, wide alone is not enough at 15 mph, and neither is a bell. Warn, slow, then wide.
