A man at the park asks if you have seen a small brown dog. You are on your own. Where is the dial?
Right, and notice why. It is not that he is lying. He might really have lost a dog. It is that you are alone, an adult is asking a kid for help, and grown-ups ask grown-ups. Twitchy means: I say I haven’t seen it, I keep walking, I tell somebody tonight. If he did lose the dog, none of that hurt him.
Read the situation, not the story. Fine is an answer about him, and you cannot know that. Scared is more than the situation needs, and it makes you move badly. Twitchy is the honest reading: something is a bit off, so I check, and checking here means keep walking and tell tonight.

3Decide
Which one is fine to help with?
Right. The teacher is at school, in front of everybody, and the job ends in a corridor full of people. That is what a normal ask looks like. The other two end at a vehicle, with you bending down or leaning in, and the person doing the asking chose a kid over every adult in sight.
Look at where the help ends. Both of those end at a vehicle, with you closer to it than you started. The teacher’s ask ends in a corridor with thirty people in it, and it comes from somebody whose job it is to ask you things. Grown-ups ask grown-ups. In a car park, that means no.

5Decide
You have said no. He is still talking. What now?
Right. Up, and towards the doors, and you do not look back to check how he took it. Inside is staff. If he follows or calls after you, that is when Be loud comes in: not a scream, a big voice that says Leave me alone, so that other people look up.
Leaving is the no. Waiting means he decides when it ends. Explaining means you are still in the conversation and he now has something to argue with. You have already said it. The next move is Leave, mid-sentence, towards people.
