The When It's Real Badge Challenge

8 questions from the 4 lessons in this badge. You need every one right, and you can try as many times as you like.

Step 1 of 8

1Decide

The operator asks where you are.

Street, number, cross street. That is what puts an ambulance outside the right door. The operator will confirm it back to you, and if you have the flat number or a gate code, that comes next.
The operator does not know where home is, and the phone’s guess can be two streets out. Your address, from memory, is the one thing only you can give them. It is the first thing they need and the first thing you say.

Pick the right one to carry on.

2Find them

Which of these are true?

Tap the ones that count.

Find all 3.

3Decide

You have been pressing for two minutes. The cloth is soaked through.

On top. The first cloth stays where it is, doing the job. Add, press, keep going. If a second cloth soaks through as fast as the first, that is a reason to call, still pressing.
Whatever is underneath that cloth has been building for two minutes, and lifting the cloth pulls it away. You do not need to see it. If you want to know how bad it is, the answer is: bad enough to keep pressing. Add on top, never take off.

Pick the right one to carry on.

4Find them

Which of these mean call 911, still pressing?

Tap the ones that count.

Find all 4.

5Decide

Your brother has grabbed a hot pan handle. His palm is red.

The tap. Cool, running, twenty minutes, and a message to a parent while it runs. A palm is a hand, and hands are on the list, so if it blisters badly or goes white, the call comes next, with the hand still under the tap.
Anything greasy traps the heat in the skin, and ice damages skin that is already hurt. Both feel like doing something. Cool running water is the only thing that actually takes heat out of a burn, and it needs twenty minutes to do it.

Pick the right one to carry on.

6Find them

Head bump. Which of these mean call 911?

Tap the ones that count.

Find all 4.

7Decide

Your sister has fallen off the counter. There is broken glass across the whole floor and you are in socks.

Shoes on. Five seconds. Then you are a helper with two working feet instead of a second person bleeding on the floor. Am I safe? is the fastest step of the four, and the only one you can skip by accident.
Am I safe? comes first, even when everything in you says run. Glass in your feet makes two casualties. And she should not move until somebody has said she can, because you do not know what she has hurt. Shoes, then her, then the call.

Pick the right one to carry on.

8Find them

Which of these are part of Am I safe?

Tap the ones that count.

Find all 4.
