Driveways and parked cars
You can stay out of the two places a driver cannot see you.

The ball
A ball rolls off the grass, between two parked cars, into the road, and a kid runs after it and stops at the bumper.
15 secondsIt stops there. The ball is in the road. What does he do?
2The idea
The gap
Parked cars make a gap. You can see the road from the gap. The driver cannot see you in it.
Never step out between parked cars. The driver is looking at the road, not the gap. By the time they see you, it is too late to stop.

The driveway
A car backing out of a driveway cannot see somebody your size. The driver looks over their shoulder at the street, not at the bit right behind the car.
Wait on the step, well back, where the driver can see your face. Stay there until the car is on the road.

Theo and the ball
Theo’s ball rolls between two parked cars into the road. Theo runs to the bumper and stops.
The ball is gone. That is fine. Theo walks back to Dad. Dad gets it in one minute. Never chase a ball into a road. The ball can wait.

What the driver sees
From the driver's seat
The view through a windscreen: the road ahead, a row of parked cars, and no sign of the kid standing between two of them.
The driver is looking at the road, not the gap. You are in the gap.

Say this in your normal voice
“The ball is gone. That's fine.”
Say it before the ball ever goes. Then your feet know what to do.

Stand behind a parked car at home. A parent sits in the driver's seat and says what they can see. Move until they can see you.
