1Look

Your Feeling Dial

Still image

The Feeling Dial

A round dial with five words around it: Fine, Funny, Twitchy, Scared, Angry. The pointer sits on Fine.

This is your Feeling Dial. You point at the one you feel.

2The idea

Five words

Fine. Funny. Twitchy. Scared. Angry. Five words for what your body is doing.

Fine is nothing wrong. Funny is not sure. Twitchy is something is off. Scared is I want to go. Angry is hot and tight. Point at the one.

3The idea

The feeling comes first

Your tummy knows first. Your legs know. Your face goes hot. The words come later, or not at all.

The feeling counts even when you cannot say why. You do not need a reason to point at Twitchy.

4The idea

The big dog

A big dog runs up. Your tummy goes tight. Your dial says Twitchy. A grown-up says do not be silly, he is friendly.

The dog might be friendly. Your dial still says Twitchy. Both are true. Nobody gets to tell you your dial is wrong.

5Your turn

Move the dial

Interactive

The dial, first go

Four short scenes: a dog barks behind a fence, a birthday cake, a grown-up you do not know says hi at the park, a brother takes your thing. After each one, move the pointer.

There is no wrong answer. It is your dial.

6Decide

Somebody says: do not be silly, that dog is friendly. Is your dial wrong?

Right. The dog might be friendly. Your dial still says Twitchy. Both can be true at once.
Nobody gets to tell you your dial is wrong. Not even a kind grown-up. It is your tummy, so it is your dial.

Pick one to carry on.

7Look

Where it shows

Still image

Where a feeling shows

A drawing of a kid with four arrows pointing at tummy, legs, face and heart.

Tight tummy. Wobbly legs. Hot face. Fast heart. That is a feeling showing up.

8Find them

Where does a feeling show up?

Tap the ones that count.

Find all 4.

9Say it

The word out loud

Say this in your normal voice

“I feel twitchy.”

Pointing is good. A word is better. A grown-up can hear a word from the next room.

10Again

Which face is Twitchy?

Right. Shoulders up, eyes sideways. Twitchy looks like that from the outside. Now you know it from the inside too.
Cake is Fine. Fists are Angry. Twitchy is the small one in the middle, shoulders up, not sure yet. It is the one people miss.

Pick one to carry on.

11Do it

Before you leave this page

At dinner, say which of the five you felt most today. Say why.

Tick it when you have done it.

Lesson done.

Fine, Funny, Twitchy, Scared, Angry. Point at the one. Nobody gets to say your dial is wrong.
