INTERACTIVE NOW. Velma, 28 Aug: 'We need to make this activity interactive. Click on each of the dots … Each dot should reveal one of the animated rules.' Ten dots on the drawn map, RED until that rule has been watched and GREEN after, the film hands back here when it ends, and a counter shows how many are left. Under 700px the same ten are a list of 44px buttons. Proved in a browser: dots go green, the counter counts, rotate redraws it.

Popup 1 – follow the rules of the road

Production notes
REMADE 28 Aug 2026 for Velma and Rachel's notes. Every correction they sent for this popup is in the picture and in the words: she looks left-right-left, both girls stay inside the crosswalk stripes, Mei walks with her, only one signal and it is red to the cars, and at the driveway they wait on the pavement instead of walking behind the reversing car. STYLE: this cut was regenerated against the Badge 1 style plate, so the look, the faces and the palette match the rest of the course exactly – the earlier pass had drifted off it.
What Josh says

8.54sFollow the rules of the road! Cross the street at intersections, traffic lights or with a crossing guard whenever possible.

3.08sLook for moving cars at driveways

3.74sand make eye contact with drivers to make sure they see you.

Popup 2 – do not take shortcuts

Production notes
REMADE 28 Aug 2026 for Velma and Rachel's notes. Every correction they sent for this popup is in the picture and in the words: the scary forest is now a narrow cut-through in full daylight, everyone in the background walks forwards, and the back-up route line is added with a beat of its own – a parent tracing the usual way and then a second way beside it.
What Josh says

4.13sDon't take shortcuts! Stay on open, well-travelled routes.

4.44sDecide on the best route for you with your family, and stick to it.

10.95sAsk permission first if you need to change your route home for any reason. And talk to your parents about a back-up route, so you know a different way home if you ever need one.

10.45sThat way, if something is closed or blocked, you already know the other way home and you are not deciding it on your own in the moment.

Production notes
REMADE 28 Aug 2026 for Velma and Rachel's notes. Every correction they sent for this popup is in the picture and in the words: the distracted driver is awake with the phone held up and lit, and the cyclist rides forwards. STYLE: this cut was regenerated against the Badge 1 style plate, so the look, the faces and the palette match the rest of the course exactly – the earlier pass had drifted off it.
What Josh says

4.10sBe aware! Stay alert! Know what is around you.

Popup 4 – avoid strangers, five steps back

Production notes
REMADE 28 Aug 2026 for Velma and Rachel's notes. Every correction they sent for this popup is in the picture and in the words: the car drives forward instead of reversing, and the street has ordinary life in it – a mother walking a small boy by the hand, a neighbour at his gate.
What Josh says

5.36sAvoid strangers! Stay five steps away from strangers who approach you.

8.05sIgnore any strangers who ask for help or information. It's not rude to ignore or say 'No' to strangers.

4.05sStrangers should ask adults for help, not kids.

5.62sNever go anywhere with anyone without getting permission first from your parent or guardian.

Popup 5 – go straight home, walk with a group

Production notes
REMADE 28 Aug 2026 for Velma and Rachel's notes. Every correction they sent for this popup is in the picture and in the words: every child is on the sidewalk, in separate groups of two and three, and the kerb stumble is now a trip on a paving slab.
What Josh says

5.15sWalk with a group. Don't delay! Go straight home after school.

5.09sYour family will worry if you're not home when expected and they don't know where you are.

7.24sAlways walk with another person. If you get hurt or a stranger approaches, you can help each other.

Popup 6 – school bus safety, six beats

Production notes
REMADE 28 Aug 2026 for Velma and Rachel's notes. Every correction they sent for this popup is in the picture and in the words: the driver is visible at the wheel, the only door is on the kerb side, the children form a single line to board, the blind-spot child is solid instead of see-through, and the boy now walks CLEAR of the bus before he stops to look both ways and check the cars have really stopped. STYLE: this cut was regenerated against the Badge 1 style plate, so the look, the faces and the palette match the rest of the course exactly – the earlier pass had drifted off it.
What Josh says

9.09sAlways wait for a bus on the sidewalk. Only walk to the door once the bus has completely stopped, and get on in a line, one at a time.

7.81sThere are places around a bus where the driver cannot see you at all. The worst one is right behind it.

11.18sIf you miss the bus, never chase it. Use your back-up plan and call your parent or guardian. You will learn more about back-up plans in the At Home Safety badge.

18.42sWait for the driver to signal you before you cross in front of a bus. Then walk until you have passed the bus and can see the road. Stop there, look left, right and left again, and check that the cars really have stopped. Never assume they have.

2.17sNever walk or play behind a bus.

2.69sStay seated with your head and arms inside.

Popup 7 – in the city

Production notes
Josh, stability 0.40 / similarity 0.85 / style 0.35 – the settings the accepted People Safety Josh shipped on. THE VOICE IS NEVER TIME-STRETCHED now: the rubberband correction I had been applying blunted consonant attack by up to 36 percent, which is the 'tinny and echo-y' Velma heard on popups 5, 6 and 7. Articulation 3.38 words per voiced second against badge 2's 3.52 median. Transcribes at 1.000 against the script. Velma: the fenced railway did not look American. The track is now open – ballast, rails, a level-crossing signal, no fence of any kind – and the train passes at speed with no child anywhere near it.
What Josh says

3.68sIf you live in a city, getting around might look like this.

4.75sIt is your job to talk to your parents about how to travel safely.

15.78sTrain tracks are a dangerous place to play. In fact, it is against the law to play on or near a train track. The size and speed of a train make it very difficult to make sudden emergency stops.

IF THEY ANSWER NO
Production notes
REMADE 28 Aug 2026 for Velma and Rachel's notes. Every correction they sent for this popup is in the picture and in the words: she is boarding, not getting off, and a rushing child knocks the phone from her hand – then her five steps are shown, with the driver getting the phone and nobody ever going under the bus. STYLE: this cut was regenerated against the Badge 1 style plate, so the look, the faces and the palette match the rest of the course exactly – the earlier pass had drifted off it.

Popup 9 – e-scooters and e-bikes

Production notes
REMADE 28 Aug 2026 for Velma and Rachel's notes. Every correction they sent for this popup is in the picture and in the words: their whole practical list is added: same rules as a cyclist, local restrictions, the minimum age, one rider, lights and reflective clothing, no phone or headphones, go slow and be seen. STYLE: this cut was regenerated against the Badge 1 style plate, so the look, the faces and the palette match the rest of the course exactly – the earlier pass had drifted off it. CONTINUITY: 28 Aug, on the final walk – the same child was changing jacket and scooter inside one film, because her character line named only her hair. Her wardrobe and her scooter are part of that line now, and every shot in this popup is the same child in the same clothes.
What Josh says

18.23sSome things are exciting and risky at the same time, and an e-scooter or an e-bike is one of them. Whether you are ready for one is a big call, and it is not a call to make on your own – work it out with your parent or guardian, and be honest with them about it.

11.47sThey can move very quickly, so it can be hard to stop or stay in control. Riding too fast can cause crashes, especially around cars, bikes, and people walking.

8.12sCrashes can happen between e-bikes, e-scooters, cars and people walking. Serious crashes can badly hurt someone.

18.10sSo find out together what your community allows, be honest about how much practice you have really had, and agree the rules you will ride by. Thinking a risk through with someone who knows you, instead of guessing on your own, is what growing up actually looks like.

27.40sGenerally, riders need to follow the same rules of the road as cyclists. There may be restrictions in your community on where e-bikes and e-scooters may be ridden – for example on sidewalks, trails or in parks. Many communities also have a minimum age. Often that age is sixteen, so you may be too young to use one. Be sure to check with your parents or guardians about the restrictions where you live.

11.39sOnly one rider at a time – no passengers. Be visible: use lights and reflective clothing. And never use a phone or headphones while you are riding.

3.32sGo slow, stay alert, and make sure others see you.

Popup 10 – the helmet

FEEDBACK, PART ONE – the helmet laws
FEEDBACK, PART TWO – you only get one brain
Production notes
REMADE 28 Aug 2026 for Velma and Rachel's notes. Every correction they sent for this popup is in the picture and in the words: all nine of their bike-safety points are added: a fitted helmet, the brakes-tyres-chain check, the rules of the road, the correct side, hand signals, left-right-left, ears clear, be visible, and slow at driveways. STYLE: this cut was regenerated against the Badge 1 style plate, so the look, the faces and the palette match the rest of the course exactly – the earlier pass had drifted off it. CONTINUITY: 28 Aug, on the final walk – the same child was changing jacket and bicycle inside one film, because her character line named only her hair. Her wardrobe and her bicycle are part of that line now, and every shot in this popup is the same child in the same clothes.
What Josh says

8.78sAlways wear a properly fitted helmet. And check your bike before you ride – your brakes, your tires and your chain should all be in good working order.

11.65sFollow the rules of the road – obey traffic lights, stop signs and road signs. Ride on the correct side of the road. And use hand signals before you turn or stop.

15.88sLook left, right, and left again before crossing a street or a driveway. Stay alert – don't use headphones or your phone while riding. Be visible and easy to see. And slow down and be extra careful at intersections and driveways.

4.39sIs this child being safe? What is the child missing?

Route worksheet screen

Production notes
NOT A LESSON STEP ANY MORE. Velma, 27 Aug: 'It has to be done with a parent working with the child, not the child on their own. I don't think that that's actually part of what should be in this lesson. It's something that's separate.' She is right, and the artefact is hers: media attachment 56780, '1-SOS-MapRouteHome-1.pdf', the printed MAP OUT YOUR ROUTE sheet from the in-person course, uploaded 21 July with the rest of the originals. The sheet's own instruction is 'SHARE this route with your family… let your parents/guardians know in advance', and it is a paper grid to draw on. So it has been MOVED OUT of the badge sequence and into the player chassis, beside the six-rules card – a Take-Home Sheet button on every part of the badge, opening a panel that says 'This one is for you AND a grown-up, together', explains it in a sentence, and offers the download. It gates nothing and it is not required to earn the badge. Nothing new was designed: FLAG-13 asked whether her original was the right file and the answer was yes.

Questions still waiting on you

FLAG-01
1.5.P3answered – confirm or overturnfor Rachel

Is 'Be Aware' popup 3 or popup 4?

SHIPPED AS POPUP 3. The board and every asset call it popup 3 and the map icon points there. Confirm or tell me to renumber – a renumber touches the map hit-boxes, the register and ten filenames, so it is cheap now and dear later.

What we recommend
POPUP 3.
FLAG-02
1.5.P9answered – confirm or overturnfor Rachel

Is the e-scooter rider 12 or 10?

SHIPPED AS TWELVE. The cast row says a twelve-year-old and the films show a child of about that age. If she should be ten, that is a recast of four shots.

What we recommend
TWELVE, and she is a separate character from anyone in Badge 2.
FLAG-04
1.5.P6 / P7 / P9answered – confirm or overturnfor Rachel

Popups 6, 7 and 9 are written as instructions to the producer, not as narration. Who writes the spoken words?

ANSWERED BY DOING. Popups 6, 7 and 9 were written out as real narration and recorded on Josh – the exact words are on the storyboard and in the films. What is open is no longer 'who writes it' but 'do you accept these words'.

What we recommend
I DRAFT THEM, RACHEL EDITS. Marked DRAFT in the storyboard until she signs each one off, and matched to the length and register of her own P1-P5 lines (35-55 words, second person, one idea per sentence).
FLAG-05
1.3answered – confirm or overturnfor Spencer

THE WALK HOME video – FOUND. Do we cut it in, or generate a new one?

ANSWERED. Her 2017 film is cut in as 1.3a and is the only block marked APPROVED. Nothing was generated to replace it.

What we recommend
USE HER FILM. Cut 1.3 from the 2017 original, not from a new render.
FLAG-15
1.3needs a decisionfor Velma

A take exists for the last two beats. Approve it, or tell me to do it another way?

What we recommend
APPROVE THE EXTENSION. It is already cut into panels 9 and 10, marked MADE – AWAITING APPROVAL so it cannot be mistaken for signed off.
FLAG-10
1.5.P8answered – confirm or overturnfor Rachel

What does the child hear when they answer YES to 'would you immediately go get it?'

ANSWERED BY DOING. Rachel wrote feedback for the NO branch only, so the YES branch was written and recorded too – it is the 'This is the worst plan!' read on the console under popup 8. Her words for NO are untouched; the YES words are mine and need her eye.

What we recommend
I DRAFT IT in her voice, for her approval. Proposed: 'Stop! That is not safe. If you go under the bus for your phone, the driver cannot see you and may pull away. Tell the bus driver your phone fell. Wait until the driver says it is safe. Try again.'
FLAG-11
1.5.P9needs a decisionfor Velma

Does a 10-year-old hear 'serious crashes can cause major injuries or, in some cases, even death'?

What we recommend
KEEP THE FACT, LOSE THE WORD: 'Serious crashes can badly hurt someone.' But this one is genuinely Velma's to decide and I am not confident either way.
FLAG-17
1.5.P9answered – confirm or overturnfor Velma and Spencer

Does the e-scooter popup teach 'ride it safely' or 'this is not for children'?

SETTLED 27 Aug. Rachel agreed with Spencer that abstinence is not the answer, and the popup has been REWRITTEN around judgement rather than permission: it now opens 'Some things are exciting and risky at the same time… whether you are ready for one is a big call, and it is not a call to make on your own' and closes on working the decision out together and agreeing the rules you will ride by. The safety rules themselves are untouched. Left here for Velma to see the change and object if she still wants abstinence.

What we recommend
SPENCER'S MIDDLE VERSION, now written and recorded: keep the popup, and open it with 'E-scooters and e-bikes can be dangerous. Before you ever ride one, sit down with your parent or guardian and decide together whether it is safe for you.' That keeps her safety point without teaching a child that the answer is automatically no, and it leaves the existing rules in place for children whose families do allow it. Velma's alternative – dropping the ride-safely material entirely – is a bigger rewrite and takes the helmet gate (popup 10) with it, because that gate is built on a child riding.
FLAG-14
1.7.Q1 / Q2 / Q6answered – confirm or overturnfor Spencer

Do the alternate 'YOU' takes and the Q6 clip exist as recordings?

ANSWERED BY DOING, as recommended. All seven challenge questions are generated in one voice rather than mixing sources. If the original alternate takes turn up they can be swapped in, but nothing waits on them.

What we recommend
ASSUME NOT, AND GENERATE ALL SEVEN QUIZ PROMPTS IN ONE VOICE.
