The one thing you cannot do on your own
- These twelve questions come from the SOS 4 Kids Home Alone manual.
- You fill them in with a parent, you both sign it, and it goes on the fridge.
- It is not a test. It is the two of you writing down what you have already agreed.
- So that nobody has to remember it under pressure.

“I am not allowed” is easier when it is written down
- When you say “I am not allowed”, this is the thing that makes it true.
- It is much easier to hold a line somebody else wrote down with you.
- Check it again in six months. What a nine-year-old is allowed to do changes.

Step 1 — Twelve questions, together. A parent and a ten-year-old at the kitchen table working down a printed sheet together, talking, both writing. Then both signing at the bottom, and the sheet going up on the fridge. The signing is the shot.
Step 2 — On the fridge. A friend at the door asking to come in. The child glances at the signed sheet on the fridge, then back, and says no. The paper does the work; the child does not have to argue.
